Fast Forward Initiatives

Round 3 of ICT Fast Forward Initiatives now underway!

The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is pleased to announce that four new ICT Fast Forward Initiatives are underway. This round marks the launch of the Fast Forward Programme for 2010.

ICT staff from the global Secretariat provided 13 proposals for innovative projects that can provide significant ICT service improvements with a relatively low level of effort. The ICT Management Coordination Group, represented by the senior ICT staff across the Secretariat, selected the following four initiatives that are currently in various stages of development and implementation:

OICT announces round 3 in the ICT Fast Forward Programme

FF Round 3The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is pleased to announce the launch of the third round of the ICT Fast Forward (FF) Programme.

The goal of the ICT Fast Forward Programme is to facilitate rapid ICT solutions aligned with institutional needs or to improve the working life of staff and the larger UN community.  Fast Forward Initiatives also encourage ICT personnel to be innovative and work in teams across ICT units.

Round 2 ICT Fast Forward Initiatives completed

ICT Fast Forward InitiativesAs part of the ICT Fast Forward Programme, last summer the Office of the Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) selected five ICT initiatives out of over 30 proposals received from United Nations staff around the globe.

The five Fast Forward (FF) Initiatives were selected by the CITO, Assistant Secretary-General Choi Soon-hong, and ICT managers throughout the Secretariat based on the potential of candidate proposals to provide high-value, user-focused solutions within 90 days or less.

Round 2 of FF Initiatives Currently Underway

FF Round 2The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) has launched the second round of the Fast Forward Initiatives for this year.

In 2008, seven ICT projects were selected out of over 40 suggestions received from ICT staff of the global Secretariat. They were selected based on their ability to provide high-value and user-focused solutions in 90 days or less. Examples of successful initiatives include a Member States Portal and access to iSeek throughout the global Secretariat. For detailed information on these 7 initiatives see their profiles here.

Update

Round 2 is now closed. More than twenty (20) submissions were received and are currently being evaluated.
 

ICT Fast Forward Guidelines - Round 2

What is a “Fast Forward” initiative?

Fast Forward initiatives are short-term projects initiated by ICT personnel that meet the following criteria:
  • Quick delivery (observable business benefits in 90 days or less)
  • Customer-focused (closely aligned with business objectives)
  • High business value (broad impact)
  • Relatively low level of effort
  • May address specific pain points of users
  • Minimal resource requirements
  • Minimal dependencies

Update on 2008 ICT Fast Forward Initiatives

ICT Fast ForwardiSeek Global Access, a new Member States Portal and an ICT Greening Policy are three of the seven ICT Fast Forward (FF) initiatives that have been completed and already delivering high impact, user-focused information and communications technology (ICT) solutions for the Secretariat.  A fourth initiative, UN Call Management has also been completed and is in an initial pilot deployment stage in selected departments with plans for a roll out over the coming months at UN Headquarters in New York.

I seek, you seek, we can all seek in iSeek - First of CITO's Fast Forward Initiatives completed

iSeekIn September 2008, the United Nations Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO), Mr. Choi Soon-Hong, selected seven projects for his ICT Fast Forward Programme called Fast Forward Initiatives (FFI’s). One of the initiatives was iSeek Global Access, designed to make iSeek accessible from anywhere worldwide and, in particular, to remote Secretariat locations which had no access.
